Do you remember as a child, the smell of a brand new opened pack of crayons? The feel of soft, squishy play doh? Or the movement of a paintbrush, filled with color, over a clean white paper? The world was yours to create and place your dreams into a healing capsule called "art". Being creative does not require rules, creativity comes from within. Art can promote resiliency, communication and socialization. All of these things are key to our very existence.

Art therapy encourages us to express and understand emotions through artistic expression and through the creative process. Art therapy provides the person-artist with critical insight into emotions, thoughts, and feelings. This is a non-threatening modality that benefits us all to gain empowerment, personal fulfillment, self discovery and emotional growth. It can promote healing by relieving stress.

This modality can be used alone, with only the creation of art, or the discovery of the art's meaning. The movement, colors, and becoming one with the artwork is a cathartic experience in itself. It is a journey between two people. Communication can be started through responsive art work. No words are needed when creating, the artwork is its own entity.  

Art can be used across all ages and cultures. Take time to create and find your inner self. You may be surprised at the potential kept inside. Allow youself to experience the pleasure of being a child again!
